The Embassy of India in Madrid, Spain, reassured that two Indian nationals on the Hantavirus-affected cruise ship are safe and showing no symptoms. The ship, MV Hondius, carrying around 150 people, including the Indians, docked in Spain recently. Following WHO and Spanish authorities’ guidelines, passengers disembarked in the Canary Islands due to the Hantavirus outbreak.
The two Indian crew members are reported to be in good health and asymptomatic. They have been evacuated to the Netherlands for quarantine under the health safety protocol, as per the Spanish National Centre for Emergency Monitoring and Coordination (CENEM). The Indian Embassy is closely coordinating with Spanish authorities to monitor the well-being and safety of the nationals.
The Spanish passengers from MV Hondius, affected by the Hantavirus outbreak, were flown back to Madrid from the Canary Islands. The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed the outbreak on the cruise ship sailing in the Atlantic Ocean, leading to three deaths and several suspected infections. The vessel, MV Hondius, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, had departed from Argentina and was scheduled to end its journey in Cape Verde.
