The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has submitted a second supplementary chargesheet in the illegal land grabbing case in West Bengal. The chargesheet details the involvement of Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Pappu, who allegedly gained financially in the scam. The first supplementary chargesheet had already outlined the roles of former Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Santanu Sinha Biswas, and real estate promoter, Joy Kamdar.
In the 100-page second supplementary chargesheet filed at a special court of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Kolkata, Sona Pappu’s alleged involvement is elaborated. It is reported that Sona Pappu illegally earned around Rs 37.77 crore through land grabbing, targeting vulnerable senior citizens. The ED stated that Sona Pappu, with the help of Sinha Biswas and Kamdar, seized land by force, often by threatening the victims.
The chargesheet also mentions that Sona Pappu enjoyed protection from Sinha Biswas, who had close ties to the former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This protection allegedly shielded Sona Pappu from police action during the previous government. Additionally, the ED has initiated a separate investigation into Sinha Biswas’s earnings from influencing police officer transfers and postings.
