The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called in three police officers, including a Sub-Inspector from south Kolkata, linked to the arrested former Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner, Shantanu Sinha Biswas, for questioning in a criminal-related syndicate case. Additionally, family members of the detained syndicate owner Biswajit Poddar, known as Sona Pappu, such as his wife Soma and other relatives, have been directed to appear at the ED’s office this week. Sona Pappu, residing in Ballygunge, south Kolkata, faces charges like land grabbing and extortion, along with a case under the Arms Act.
The ED initiated the probe based on these allegations, which also led to the identification of businessman Joy Kamdar in connection with the case. Subsequently, Joy Kamdar was apprehended by the ED in the same investigation. Following this development, a search operation was conducted at Shantanu Sinha Biswas’ residence on Fern Road in South Kolkata. The ED then summoned Shantanu and his two sons, Sayantan and Manish, to the CGO Complex office in Salt Lake, Kolkata, regarding the Sona Pappu case. However, they did not appear at the ED office that day.
Earlier in April, Shantanu was also summoned by the ED for questioning in a sand smuggling case but failed to comply. A lookout circular was issued against him, leading to his eventual appearance at the ED office. Subsequently, after interrogation, Shantanu was arrested by the ED, while Sona Pappu remained at large. Later, Sona Pappu turned up at the CGO Complex office with his wife and was arrested following extensive questioning. Presently, Shantanu, Sona Pappu, and Joy Kamdar are all in judicial custody. The ED is now seeking to question Sona Pappu’s wife and other family members in the ongoing investigation.
