England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand due to a minor tear in her left calf, as confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Vice-captain Charlie Dean will lead the team in Sciver-Brunt’s absence during the matches scheduled for May 10, 13, and 16 in Durham, Northampton, and Cardiff.
The ECB stated that Sciver-Brunt sustained the injury while playing for The Blaze against Warwickshire on April 29. Following a scan that revealed the extent of the injury, it was decided to rest her as a precautionary measure. Maia Bouchier has been called up as batting cover for the series.
Despite playing a full part in the domestic fixture, Sciver-Brunt experienced discomfort later on, prompting the medical assessment. Her availability for the upcoming T20I matches against New Zealand and India, leading up to the Women’s T20 World Cup in England from June 12 to July 5, remains uncertain pending further evaluation.
The ECB spokesperson mentioned that Sciver-Brunt’s rest period will be determined based on subsequent assessments, with decisions regarding her participation in the Vitality IT20 matches against New Zealand and India to follow.
