Every fourth household in Islamabad employs a child as a domestic worker due to inadequate enforcement of child labor laws. The Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child highlighted this issue during an event marking the World Day Against Child Labour. Efforts are needed to combat child labor in various sectors like supply chains, hotels, and brick kilns.
Pakistan’s Education Ministry recently disclosed that 26.2 million children are not attending school, emphasizing the urgent need for action. Ending child labor requires a collaborative approach involving government, civil society, and private sectors to address root causes such as poverty and lack of education access. Stronger child protection measures and strict law enforcement are crucial for eradicating child labor.
The Federal Ministry of Education’s report revealed that 26.2 million children, including 3.4 million girls, are out of school in Pakistan. Funding challenges in education have led to a decrease in the national education budget share, with provinces like Punjab and Sindh cutting back on education funding. Despite some progress in school infrastructure, there is a lack of specialized learning materials for students with disabilities.
