A fake Facebook account pretending to be Lok Sabha MP and Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari has been exposed in Varanasi. The Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell has taken immediate action upon discovering this deception, filing an FIR against an unidentified individual and launching investigations. Tiwari clarified that while his official accounts are verified, a fraudulent account was created in his name, leading to the spread of misleading content using his identity and photos.
Manoj Tiwari expressed concern over the situation, emphasizing the need for legal action to be taken against the perpetrator. He suspects that the act may be an attempt to tarnish his reputation, possibly orchestrated by opponents or the Opposition. The fake account, named ‘Manoj Tiwari BJP’ on Facebook, was actively sharing false information and unrelated posts, posing a threat to Tiwari’s public image and causing confusion among the public.
Following Tiwari’s complaint to the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi on January 22, investigations revealed that the case falls under Section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act and Section 356(3) of the Indian Penal Code. An FIR has been lodged at the Cyber Police Station, New Delhi, with efforts underway to dismantle the fraudulent Facebook account. Authorities are diligently working to identify the culprits behind the impersonation, determine their motives, and assess the impact on affected individuals. Collaboration with Facebook is also in progress to gather essential data and information.
The Delhi Police has issued a warning against the misuse of individuals’ identities, photos, or videos on social media platforms, emphasizing the gravity of such offenses. Stringent legal measures are being pursued in this case, with potential severe consequences for the offenders. The public is urged to remain cautious regarding suspicious online activities and promptly report any concerning incidents to the Cyber Cell.
