Bangladesh cricketers Nahida Akter and Sarmin Sultana have been fined 10% of their match fees for separate Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Women’s Championship series against Sri Lanka. The sanctions were imposed after incidents in Rajshahi where both players violated different articles of the Code. Nahida breached Article 2.5 by using language or gestures that could provoke a reaction from a batter upon dismissal, while Sarmin was found guilty under Article 2.8 for showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision.
In addition to the fines, both players received one demerit point each on their disciplinary records, marking their first offence within a 24-month period. The incidents occurred during the match, with Nahida giving a send-off to Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu after dismissing her and Sarmin showing dissent after being adjudged LBW. The charges were brought by the on-field umpiring team, and both players admitted their offences and accepted the proposed sanctions.
Level 1 offences under the ICC Code of Conduct can result in an official reprimand, a penalty of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka won the second ODI to level the series 1-1, setting up a decider match at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
