Two family members tragically lost their lives, and another individual was injured in a road accident in Bihar’s Supaul district. The incident occurred when a speeding truck collided with a motorcycle near Anant Chowk on NH-27 under the Bhimpur police station limits. The grandmother, Saraswati Devi (60), and her grandson, Ganesh Kumar (15), were killed instantly, while another youth, Kuldeep Kumar (20), sustained severe injuries.
The victims, all traveling on a single motorcycle, were returning from a wedding in Maskan village in Araria district when the collision took place on the Murliganj branch canal bridge. The impact of the crash was so intense that the truck driver, whose identity remains unknown, fled the scene immediately after the accident. This led to local residents staging a protest by blocking NH-27 for several hours, causing significant traffic disruptions.
Angry protesters criticized the police for alleged inaction, claiming that the authorities failed to promptly respond or apprehend the truck driver. Law enforcement officials, including Station House Officers from Bhimpur and Chhatapur police stations, as well as the Deputy Superintendent of Police from Supaul Headquarters, intervened to manage the situation. Former RJD candidate Baijnath Mehta also arrived at the scene to support the grieving family and ensure they receive appropriate compensation.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination at Sadar Hospital, Supaul, as investigations into the accident continue. The administration has assured that the family will receive compensation in accordance with government regulations.
