Four members of a family from Manjeri in Kerala’s Malappuram district tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Madina, Saudi Arabia. The victims were identified as Abdul Jaleel (52), his mother Maimunath Kakkengal (73), his wife Thasna Thodengal (40), and their 14-year-old son Aadhil Jaleel. The fatal collision occurred while the family was traveling from Mecca to Jeddah after completing the Islamic pilgrimage of Umrah.
Preliminary reports from Saudi Arabia revealed that all four family members died instantly due to the collision impact. The accident took place on the highway near Madinah when their vehicle collided with a truck, causing significant damage. While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be officially confirmed by Saudi authorities, three other family members sustained serious injuries in the crash.
Abdul Jaleel, who had been residing in Saudi Arabia for several years and working in Jeddah, had recently traveled to the country with his family on a tourist visa for Umrah. His daughters, Ayisha, Hadiya, and Noorah, are currently in critical condition and receiving medical treatment at different hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Updates on their health are eagerly awaited as they remain under close medical observation.
The tragic news has deeply affected the community in Manjeri and surrounding areas, where the family was well-known. Messages of condolences have been pouring in from across the district and the Kerala diaspora in the Gulf as relatives, neighbors, and community members gather at the family home in Vellila. Efforts are underway to coordinate with Saudi authorities for legal procedures and the repatriation of the deceased family members.
