Four members of a single family, including a toddler, tragically lost their lives in a domestic cooking gas cylinder explosion in Durg district, Chhattisgarh. The incident, which occurred in the Kumhari area, caused shock and mourning in the local community. The powerful blast engulfed the residential house in flames, trapping the occupants inside.
Police officials reported that the explosion happened suddenly, leading to a massive fire that spread rapidly. Despite neighbors’ attempts to help, the intensity of the fire prevented anyone from entering the building. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the deceased family, in addition to Rs 4 lakh provided under government rules.
The victims, identified as Anil Vaishnav (45), Vaishnav (18), Lakshmi Vaishnav (20), and a one-and-a-half-year-old girl named Gopika, were recovered after the fire was extinguished. Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and any potential technical faults in the gas connection. Senior officials and political leaders have expressed condolences and offered support to the affected families.
