Farmers in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district are pleased with the government’s decision to raise the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for the 2026-27 season. This move is expected to boost their income and make farming more profitable. The decision, approved during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been well-received by farmers in the region.
The revised MSP rates are seen as a means for farmers to recover cultivation costs and receive better returns for their produce. Small and marginal farmers are particularly optimistic about the decision, as it is likely to benefit them and promote the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds. Farmer Jayesh Dave highlighted that the MSP being set at 1.5 times the cost of production will offer significant relief to cultivators.
Expressing gratitude towards the Prime Minister, farmers emphasized the importance of the increased MSP in ensuring fair earnings, especially for those who struggle to obtain reasonable prices in open markets. The decision is expected to provide financial stability, reduce reliance on market fluctuations, and boost farmers’ confidence in continuing agricultural activities. This move is viewed as a significant step towards strengthening the rural economy and securing better returns for farmers in preparation for the upcoming Kharif sowing season.
