At least five individuals lost their lives, and seven others sustained injuries in a tragic head-on crash involving a bus and a van on a National Highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district. The incident occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. near Chhikma village under the Gohad police station limits. The van was severely crushed in the collision, leaving several passengers trapped inside.
The ill-fated van was en route from Gwalior to Bhind, while the bus was traveling in the opposite direction. Four individuals perished at the scene, with a fifth individual succumbing to injuries after being transported to the hospital. Upon receiving notification, a team from Gohad police station promptly arrived, rescued the injured passengers, and transferred them to nearby hospitals in Bhind and Gwalior using multiple ambulances.
Authorities have identified two of the deceased victims as Atul Shivhare and Jagdish Bhadauria, both residents of Bhind district. Efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining casualties. The injured parties, including Ketu, Santosh, Pradeep, Mewaram, Ramlakhan, Meera, and Sukhveer from various villages in Bhind district, have been named.
Some of the injured individuals are in critical condition and have been referred to the district hospital in Gwalior for advanced medical care. Initial investigations suggest that the collision occurred at a highway turn and indicate possible overspeeding by the bus. Authorities also suspect that the dense fog in the Gwalior-Chambal region might have contributed to the low visibility leading to the accident.
Both vehicles involved in the collision have been cleared from the roadway, and traffic operations have resumed. Further inquiries into the incident are currently in progress.
