At least four individuals lost their lives, and around four others were injured in a tragic road accident in Bihar’s East Champaran district. The incident occurred around 12:40 P.M. near Nayka Tola on the Chhapwa–Bettiah road under the Sugauli police station’s jurisdiction. An autorickshaw from Chhapwa collided head-on with a speeding pickup van from the Bettiah side, resulting in a severe impact that left the autorickshaw completely mangled.
Local residents and police teams rushed to the accident site upon hearing the crash, assisting in rescuing trapped passengers. The injured were promptly taken to the Community Health Centre for medical care. The deceased individuals have been identified as Rubina Khatoon (30), Ayesha Khatoon (22), Jayad Khan (7), and Bhairon Sah. Among the seriously injured are Chand Khan, Shankar Kumar Sharma, Rifat Parveen, and Manat Parveen, who have been referred to Bettiah for advanced treatment.
The driver of the pickup van also sustained injuries in the collision. Authorities have seized both vehicles involved and sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations. The families of the deceased have been notified, and post-mortem procedures will be conducted in their presence. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, with police awaiting statements from the injured individuals to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal collision.
The tragic incident has deeply affected the victims’ families and brought sorrow to the area. An FIR has been registered by the district police in connection with the case. Upon completion of the investigation, individuals found responsible will be named based on the evidence gathered.
