A father and his daughter were apprehended by Cachar Police in Assam’s Cachar district for the possession of suspected heroin and psychotropic tablets. The arrests of Shamsur Uddin Laskar and Rubina Begum followed a late-night police raid in the Banskandi area under the Lakhipur Assembly constituency. The operation was initiated based on specific intelligence about the alleged storage and movement of narcotics from a residence in Alipur Basti.
During the search, authorities discovered 200 suspected heroin vials weighing approximately 5.5 grams and 310 suspected psychotropic tablets in a scooter parked at the residence with registration number AS-11K-5955. The contraband was confiscated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in the presence of witnesses. Subsequently, the father and daughter were detained and charged under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
Law enforcement officials are actively investigating to trace the origin of the seized narcotics and identify the intended recipients. The probe also aims to uncover any potential connections to a broader drug trafficking network associated with the accused. As the investigation progresses, authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests.
A senior police official highlighted the intensified intelligence-based operations against drug trafficking in Cachar district as part of the Assam government’s anti-drug campaign. In recent years, Assam Police have conducted numerous significant anti-drug operations in districts bordering neighboring states and international boundaries, resulting in the confiscation of substantial quantities of illicit substances. The crackdown on drug trafficking is set to continue with sustained enforcement efforts and intelligence-driven operations to dismantle narcotics supply chains and bring perpetrators to justice.
