The father of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder victim expressed dissatisfaction with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)’s handling of the case. He criticized the CBI for allegedly following the Kolkata Police’s investigative path. The victim’s family raised concerns about the CBI’s inaction on their demands and its reluctance to make arrests.
The victim’s family accused the CBI of being part of a larger conspiracy and requested a thorough investigation into the roles of both the CBI and the Kolkata Police. They also demanded the arrest of certain junior doctors who were reportedly the last to see the victim before the incident. The family reiterated concerns about Sudipta Roy, a Trinamool Congress MLA, and Chairman of the RG Kar Hospital Patient Welfare Committee, alleging no action had been taken against him despite financial irregularities.
During the court proceedings, the victim’s family sought the arrest of police personnel Anup Dutta, named in connection with the case. They alleged that Sanjay Roy, convicted in the case, had visited the hospital on Anup Dutta’s instructions. The family urged the court to investigate further and questioned the omission of names in CBI documents, including Sudipta Roy’s, despite his statement being recorded.
The incident occurred on August 8, 2024, when a junior doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Initially investigated by the Kolkata Police, the case was later taken over by the CBI on court orders. Sanjay Roy was named as the sole accused, convicted, and sentenced to life imprisonment. The victim’s family raised concerns over the CBI’s progress report, questioning its findings and procedural aspects of the investigation.
