The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) views Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal’s upcoming visit to Canada as a significant move to strengthen economic ties between the two countries. Scheduled from May 25–27, the visit holds importance as India and Canada aim to revive talks on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with a target to boost bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030.
FIEO President SC Ralhan expressed strong support for the Commerce Minister’s visit, emphasizing the mutual commitment to enhance economic engagement and fast-track discussions on the proposed CEPA. Both nations share synergies in sectors like agriculture, clean energy, education, and advanced manufacturing, offering substantial opportunities for trade and investments.
Ralhan highlighted that the trade pact could create new avenues for Indian exporters, especially MSMEs, by easing market access, streamlining trade processes, and promoting collaboration in technology-driven fields. Against the backdrop of evolving global trade dynamics, a robust India-Canada trade relationship can bolster economic resilience and growth for both countries.
The renewed engagement between India and Canada comes at a critical juncture amid global market uncertainties stemming from geopolitical tensions and trade disruptions. Strengthened bilateral cooperation is anticipated to enhance trade partnerships diversification and reinforce supply chain security, noted FIEO.
The apex exporters’ body pointed out the growing momentum in ministerial exchanges and trade missions between India and Canada, underscoring recent interactions between officials from both nations. FIEO emphasized the significance of sustained dialogue and industry-level collaboration in rebuilding confidence and expanding commercial ties. The federation expressed optimism that the minister’s visit will inject fresh momentum into CEPA negotiations, fostering deeper economic integration between India and Canada.
