Film director Ranjith was arrested for an alleged sexual assault complaint filed by a young actress, with the Ernakulam Central Police handling the case. The arrest, conducted by a special squad led by Kochi’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, followed directives from senior officers.
Ranjith was apprehended in Thodupuzha after his vehicle was intercepted through mobile phone tracking. He is currently under Thodupuzha police custody and is expected to be transferred to Kochi police for further legal procedures. The complainant, a young actress working in a film directed by Ranjith, accused him of a sexual assault attempt during the shoot.
The incident is said to have taken place on the film set, where Ranjith allegedly displayed inappropriate sexual behavior. The film, directed by Ranjith, was being filmed in Kottayam and Kochi, with the reported incident occurring in Kochi. The actress lodged complaints with the Director General of Police, leading to a swift response from the authorities.
Ranjith, known for his roles as a director, actor, and writer, has faced previous allegations of unnatural sexual assault. Despite earlier cases being settled, this recent arrest marks a significant development. Ranjith, associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), had previously served as the chairman of the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy.
