The Global Ayyappa Meet in Kerala faced controversy as an audit report revealed serious financial irregularities. The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) took action to address the issues. TDB President K. Jayakumar defended the institution, attributing the concerns to confusion rather than deliberate misconduct.

A task force has been established to address the audit objections and engage with the auditor. The TDB assured the Kerala High Court that a revised final report addressing the concerns would be submitted by February 26. The financial dispute revolves around a Rs 7 crore bill submitted for event-related works.

Jayakumar announced that the total expenditure would be limited to Rs 4.99 crore, rejecting inflated claims. He acknowledged discrepancies in food-related accounts and transactions linked to the Nandagovindan Bhajan program. The TDB is now seeking sponsorships to cover the financial deficit.

Emphasizing that no funds from the Devaswom Board would be used, Jayakumar highlighted the reliance on sponsorships as per the High Court’s directive. Concerns linger about settling liabilities if expected sponsorships do not materialize. The appointment of the Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction as the event manager has also raised questions.

Despite auditors questioning the appointment, Jayakumar defended the decision, stating that the previous Board’s choices stand. The Board’s detailed clarification before the High Court is expected to guide future actions amidst legal and reputational concerns.
