Finnish President Alexander Stubb concluded his State Visit to India on Sunday, bidding farewell at the airport with Minister Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the visit’s significance, marking an elevation to a ‘Strategic Partnership in Digitalisation and Sustainability’. Stubb emphasized the role of India and the Global South in shaping a cooperative global order during his visit.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed optimism about expanding cooperation with Finland in key technology sectors like artificial intelligence and telecommunications. Both sides agreed to enhance research collaboration and innovation promotion. Joint research initiatives will focus on areas such as renewable energy, smart cities, and electric vehicles.
Stubb, speaking at the Raisina Dialogue, emphasized the shifting power balance globally, with the Global South gaining prominence. He stressed the need to address violence used as a foreign policy tool, referencing conflicts in Ukraine, West Asia, and Sudan. Stubb also endorsed External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s remarks on Europe’s global responsibilities.
