An FIR has been lodged against Telangana’s Nunhems India Private Limited following severe losses reported by farmers in Madhya Pradesh due to substandard bitter gourd seeds and saplings. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took swift action after farmers from Dhar and Khargone districts highlighted their significant losses.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare revealed that the complaint, filed on February 17, 2026, stemmed from crops yielding small, premature yellow fruits, resulting in a sharp decline in production. Investigations suggest that farmers were sold substandard seeds disguised as certified material, causing substantial financial harm.
In response, a ban has been imposed on the substandard bitter gourd seed variety “Rubasta.” Minister Chouhan emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards injustices, negligence, or fraud affecting farmers, ensuring full government support for those impacted. He stressed the need for swift resolution of farmers’ issues and stringent measures against counterfeit agricultural inputs to safeguard farmers’ efforts and future.
