An FIR has been lodged against Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary and Lok Sabha member of the Trinamool Congress, for allegedly violating the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The complaint was filed by a Baguiati resident at the Kalighat police station in South Kolkata.
The complainant, Rajiv Sarkar, accused Banerjee’s security guards of driving his car recklessly, breaching multiple sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). It was claimed that security guards were often spotted standing on the footrest of Banerjee’s moving vehicle.
The complaint highlighted violations of Section 123 of the Motor Vehicle Act, prohibiting hanging passengers or drivers in a moving vehicle, and Section 184, which penalizes dangerous driving. Consequently, the complainant has urged for appropriate action against Banerjee in this regard.
A case has been registered against Banerjee under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the BNS, including Sections 281, 125, 223, and 3(5). Abhishek Banerjee, who is already facing corruption allegations, has not yet responded to this latest FIR against him.
