An FIR has been filed against nine individuals at the Keshwapur police station in Hubballi following the alleged assault and stripping of a BJP woman party worker. The incident, brought to light by a video on social media, has sparked concerns. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi is set to address the media in Bengaluru regarding this issue.
The case involves serious charges, including attempt to murder, against Hubballi–Dharwad Municipal Corporation Congress member Suvarna Kalakuntla and seven others. The FIR was lodged based on a complaint by the victim’s brother, BJP activist Sujatha Handi, concerning an incident on January 2 in Hubballi. The accused face charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The police took action after BJP workers protested, demanding accountability from Congress corporator Suvarna Kalakuntla. The incident is believed to stem from a longstanding personal feud between the victim and the corporator. The rivalry, which escalated after the victim switched to the BJP, has now led to a political dimension, resulting in the recent FIR registration.
Amid allegations of assault and stripping of the BJP worker by police in Hubballi, the Karnataka Police have refuted claims, stating that the woman “had stripped herself.” The State Women’s Commission emphasized the need to scrutinize both the victim’s and police’s roles. The Karnataka BJP has called for the immediate suspension of officials involved in the incident.
