A fire at Lemon Green Restaurant in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, resulted in the tragic loss of 21 lives. The Delhi Police have initiated a search for the hotel owner, Lokesh Bajaj, forming multiple teams for the task. Coordinated raids are being conducted across Delhi to locate and apprehend the suspect.
The Delhi Police have filed a case under the culpable homicide section and other relevant laws following the incident at Malviya Nagar. Reports indicate that the hotel’s operations involve three partners who own various hotels and guest houses in the city. Authorities are investigating the ownership, operations, and safety protocols of the hotel.
Among the victims of the blaze, 17 were foreign nationals, with most hailing from Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Bangladesh. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jitender Kumar confirmed the tragic loss of 21 lives, with 26 individuals currently receiving medical treatment out of the 47 rescued. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has received 13 patients, including individuals who sustained injuries from jumping to escape the fire.
AIIMS Delhi Trauma Centre highlighted that among the patients, 10 are rescuers, comprising five Head Constables and five Constables from the Delhi Police. These personnel were the first responders at the scene. Additionally, three bodies have been transferred to the Burns and Plastic Surgery Department. The situation is being closely monitored by senior officials from Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, and rescue services.
