Four policemen were injured in a firecracker explosion at Challapalli Police Station in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district. The explosion resulted from firecrackers stored at the station premises. Among the injured personnel, a Sub-Inspector and three constables sustained burn injuries, with two reported to be in critical condition.
The blast not only caused injuries but also damaged the police station building and a parked police vehicle. The firecrackers had been confiscated by the police in the past and stored at the station. Circle Inspector K.S. Rao examined the blast’s cause at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion occurred while a police constable was inspecting the seized firecrackers. The incident created panic among local residents. The injured officers were promptly taken to a hospital in Avanigadda, where senior officials visited them.
The District Superintendent of Police has initiated an investigation into the explosion. In response to the incident, authorities are likely to issue directives for the safe disposal of seized firecrackers stored at police stations. This event follows a recent tragic explosion in a firecracker manufacturing unit in Kakinada district, which claimed multiple lives and led to a statewide crackdown on such units.
