Five individuals lost their lives, and one person sustained injuries in an illegal mining collapse in Huize County, Yunnan Province, China. The incident occurred in Baiwu village of Nagu Town early on Sunday, with local authorities responding promptly. Emergency teams from Qujing city and Huize County conducted rescue operations, successfully extracting all six trapped individuals. Tragically, five of them succumbed to their injuries, while the surviving individual is now in stable condition.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the collapse. This incident follows a recent coal mine accident in Shanxi Province, where 82 individuals lost their lives due to a gas explosion at the Liushenyu coal mine. Over 120 people received medical treatment, with rescue teams working diligently to assist those affected. Authorities have pledged to thoroughly investigate the accident, assign responsibilities, and enforce penalties as per regulations.
China’s coal mining industry has a history of deadly accidents, despite efforts to enhance safety standards in recent years. In a separate incident in Shaanxi Province, three individuals were trapped in a coal mine tunnel collapse in Zhenping County. Fortunately, five workers managed to escape safely, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by miners in the region.
