Police in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh have filed a case against former minister and YSR Congress Party leader Ambati Rambabu. The case was registered at Kirlampudi Police Station due to an incident during the last rites of former minister Mudragada Padmanabham. Rambabu and his supporters allegedly interfered with police duties by pushing policemen during a guard of honour presentation.
The situation arose when the family of the late leader declined State honours, leading to objections from YSRCP leaders regarding police presence. Allegedly, Rambabu engaged in a dispute with police officers and physically pushed them. Following a complaint by Armed Reserve Sub-Inspector V. Appalaraju and several constables, a case was filed against Rambabu and others for obstructing police duties.
The police claimed that Rambabu and his supporters obstructed them from performing their duties and intentionally pushed them. The late Padmanabham, a former minister, passed away at the age of 73 in Hyderabad. His family honored his wish to be buried under a mango tree at his Kirlampudi village residence, dressed in his regular attire with personal belongings.
Former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy oversaw the rites and participated as a pallbearer. Despite initial plans for State honours by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the family declined, citing past “harassment” during Naidu’s tenure. Rambabu and others engaged in a verbal altercation with police officers when they arrived to present a guard of honour at the late leader’s residence.
Rambabu has faced multiple cases in recent years, primarily for alleged misconduct towards police and hindering their duties.
