Former England and Wales Cricket Board CEO David Collier, aged 70, passed away on Tuesday. Collier served as the ECB’s second chief executive from 2004 to 2014. Under his leadership, the England men’s team won the Ashes four times, and the England women’s team secured the Ashes five times.
Collier’s tenure saw significant achievements, including the England women’s team winning the ICC Women’s World Cup and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2009. Additionally, the England men’s team clinched the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2010. A highlight during Collier’s time was England’s double Ashes victory in 2005.
In recognition of his contributions to cricket, Collier was honored as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2015 New Year Honours. The ECB expressed deep sadness at his passing, highlighting his significant role in the organization’s growth and success. ECB Chief Executive Richard Gould praised Collier’s dedication and leadership in advancing the game, particularly in women’s and disability cricket.
