Former IAS officer Subodh Agarwal, linked to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam, has been remanded to three days of custody by the ACB Court. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sought a longer remand for further questioning, citing large-scale fraud and financial irregularities in the case. Agarwal’s defense objected to the arrest, claiming lack of proper grounds disclosure and questioning the necessity of custodial interrogation at this stage.
Agarwal, denying any surrender under pressure, voluntarily cooperated with the investigation, expressing faith in the justice system. He was arrested in New Delhi, brought to Jaipur, and formally arrested there. The ACB accuses Agarwal of manipulating tender conditions, misusing his position, and committing irregularities in projects worth up to Rs 50 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The ACB has arrested 10 individuals in connection with the case, while three remain absconding with standing warrants issued against them. Agarwal, evading arrest despite extensive surveillance, changed hideouts frequently in cities like Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Mumbai. Following court orders, he appeared before authorities, was medically examined, and granted a three-day remand for further interrogation.
