Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan expressed sorrow over the tragic death of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar in Uttam Nagar, Delhi. Dhawan condemned the violent turn of events stemming from a minor Holi incident and urged for severe punishment for those responsible. The incident occurred during Holi celebrations in JJ Colony, Hasthsal village, Uttam Nagar on March 4.

In a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), Dhawan expressed deep sadness over Tarun Kumar’s loss and highlighted how a small Holi prank led to such a devastating outcome. He emphasized the importance of maintaining humanity in such situations and extended prayers to Tarun’s family while advocating for strict actions against the culprits. According to police and media reports, the incident began when an 11-year-old girl from Tarun’s family accidentally threw a water balloon filled with colored water, triggering a dispute between the two households due to existing tensions.

The situation seemed to calm down initially, but later that night, as Tarun was returning home after celebrating Holi with friends, he was reportedly ambushed by a group of 15-20 individuals. He faced a brutal attack involving iron rods, hockey sticks, cricket bats, stones, and other weapons, resulting in severe injuries. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Tarun succumbed to his wounds on March 5. Several others, including family members, also sustained injuries during the clashes.

Authorities took action by arresting eight adults and one juvenile in connection with the crime. The incident, which involved individuals from a Scheduled Caste community, led to heightened tensions in the area, necessitating the deployment of police and Rapid Action Force personnel. Locals demanded swift justice, leading to protests, while the Municipal Corporation of Delhi took steps to partially demolish an illegal structure belonging to one of the accused.

Tarun, a young man pursuing a course in digital marketing to support his family, was remembered by relatives as hardworking with aspirations for the future. The incident has sparked outrage on social media and within the community, with many echoing Dhawan’s plea for exemplary punishment to deter such mindless violence. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances and any potential additional involvement.
