Former Kerala Public Works Department (PWD) Minister and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) Vice-President, V.K. Ibrahim Kunju, aged 73, passed away in Kochi. Kunju, a four-time legislator, had been out of the public eye since 2021 due to his health issues. He was known for his quiet and organized approach in politics, earning respect across party lines for his gentle demeanor.
Kunju, a prominent figure in Central Kerala for the IUML, served as an MLA for multiple terms from 2001 to 2021. He held key ministerial positions, including PWD Minister from 2011 to 2016, overseeing significant infrastructure development projects during his tenure. Born in 1952, Kunju began his political journey through student politics and gradually climbed the ranks within the IUML.
Despite his popularity, Kunju faced controversy in his later years related to the Palarivattom flyover case. He was arrested in connection with alleged financial irregularities during his time as the PWD Minister. Survived by his wife and three sons, Kunju’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday in Kochi.
