Political circles in West Bengal were abuzz when former state minister and ex-Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim visited the Assembly chamber of Ritabrata Banerjee, the Leader of the Opposition in the Trinamool Congress legislative party. Hakim, a four-time Trinamool Congress legislator, was accompanied by another party legislator, Sandipan Saha, for the meeting.
Hakim, who recently resigned as the Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, declined to disclose the purpose of the meeting with Banerjee and Saha. This development coincided with former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, attending a meeting in New Delhi convened by Congress’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Meanwhile, reports emerged that a group of rebel Trinamool Congress MPs, including Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Satabdi Roy, visited the official residence of Union Environment Minister Bhupenddra Yadav in New Delhi. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was also present at Yadav’s residence, where discussions took place regarding the implementation of the central health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat, in West Bengal.
Rebel Trinamool Congress MPs, dissatisfied with Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership as the party’s general secretary, gathered in New Delhi. This group, which included 20 Trinamool Congress MPs from both houses of Parliament and Sukehndu Sekhar Roy, expressed their reservations during the meeting at Yadav’s residence.
