Former Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas and real estate developer Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Pappu, appeared before the Bankshall court as their ED custody period ended. Shantanu’s lawyer sought ‘Grade One’ prisoner status for him, citing threats to his life and his significant investigative contributions leading to arrests. The ED requested judicial custody for the former police officer, questioning the need for Shantanu’s Grade One prisoner status application.
Sona Pappu’s lawyer, on the other hand, did not seek bail but asked for appropriate treatment for his client during judicial custody. Sona Pappu was arrested by the ED this month in connection with a syndicate case involving alleged coercion in land and property dealings. The ED revealed that a group of three individuals linked to Sona Pappu, including businessman Joy Kamdar, were arrested for their involvement in the syndicate, claiming Shantanu’s association with them. Shantanu was arrested after being summoned for questioning at the CGO Complex on May 14, with the ED uncovering multiple illicit financial transactions related to him.
