Former President Ram Nath Kovind and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar commemorated Babu Jagjivan Ram’s 119th Birth Anniversary by laying floral tributes at his memorial in Delhi. The event, organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, took place at Samta Sthal at Delhi Gate. Additionally, a Sarva Dharam prayer was held at Krishna Menon Marg by the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry in collaboration with the Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid respects to Babu Jagjivan Ram, highlighting his contributions as the Agriculture Minister during the ‘Green Revolution’ and his role in India’s 1971 war victory as Defence Minister. Shah praised Babu Jagjivan Ram’s dedication to social justice and his unwavering stand against divisive forces, emphasizing his legacy of advocating for the rights of marginalized sections of society.
Babu Jagjivan Ram, a prominent freedom fighter and national leader, served as a Cabinet Minister for 35 years, holding key portfolios. Known for his significant reforms, he played a pivotal role in the ‘Green Revolution’ as the Food and Agriculture Minister and led India to victory in the 1971 war as the Defence Minister, leading to the creation of Bangladesh. Various dignitaries, including Meira Kumar, B. L. Verma, Manoj Kumar, and officials from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, paid their respects at the memorial events.
