Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the BJP for the delay in the trial of the Kanhaiya Lal murder case. Gehlot accused the ruling party of exploiting the incident for political gains while failing to ensure swift justice for the victim’s family.
Gehlot highlighted that it has been almost four years since the brutal murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, yet justice remains elusive for the family despite the BJP’s governance at both the Centre and in the state. He alleged that the slow progress in the trial under the BJP’s rule seemed more like a deliberate scheme than mere negligence.
Despite the case being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and heard by a special NIA court, Gehlot questioned the sluggish pace of the trial under the BJP-led governments. He expressed concerns over only 21 out of 180 witnesses having their statements recorded so far, indicating a worrisome delay in the legal process.
Gehlot criticized the BJP for allegedly using the Kanhaiya Lal murder case as an election tool without ensuring justice for the victim’s family. He accused the party of exploiting the issue for electoral gains through misleading narratives rather than prioritizing the delivery of justice.
Questioning the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the matter, Gehlot pointed out their lack of mention of Kanhaiya Lal or efforts to bring the accused to justice during their visits to Rajasthan. He urged the people of Rajasthan to see through what he described as the BJP’s deceptive tactics and recognize the party’s true intentions.
The BJP is yet to respond to Gehlot’s criticisms.
