Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai revealed his exit from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and introduced a new youth-focused initiative called ‘We the Leaders’. Annamalai expressed that the movement would evolve into a political party and participate in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
In a video message, Annamalai explained that his decision was driven by his initial mission upon entering public life. He highlighted that his aim in joining the BJP was to bring positive changes to Tamil Nadu, but he has now opted for a different political direction.
Annamalai disclosed that he had informed the BJP leadership of his decision to leave the party in December 2025. He mentioned that senior leaders had requested him to stay until the completion of the Tamil Nadu election process before officially resigning.
Expressing his respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Annamalai stated his disagreements with the BJP on various issues over the past 18 months. He emphasized his belief that the BJP should independently contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, indicating differences over the alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
Announcing the launch of ‘We the Leaders’, Annamalai confirmed that his new movement would participate in the upcoming state elections. He described his political journey as a personal endeavor aimed at creating a new path while remaining dedicated to Tamil Nadu’s identity and aspirations.
Annamalai, a former IPS officer, emphasized his desire to engage with ordinary citizens and focus on politics centered on public welfare. He criticized national parties for not fully grasping the sentiments and expectations of the people of Tamil Nadu.
