Former Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji is set to meet with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on March 17 regarding the investigation into the tragic Karur stampede during a political rally last year. The stampede, which occurred on September 27 at Veluchamipuram in Karur district, resulted in the loss of 41 lives and injuries to several others. The CBI has been conducting inquiries with various individuals linked to the incident as part of its ongoing investigation.
Several Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leaders, including N. Anand, Adhav Arjun, C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, and Mathiyazhagan, have previously cooperated with the CBI in New Delhi. TVK chief Vijay was also summoned by the CBI but requested a rescheduled appearance in Chennai, citing prior commitments. The CBI has granted Vijay temporary relief and is expected to issue a fresh summons at a later date.
In response to the CBI summons, Senthil Balaji affirmed his willingness to assist with the investigation. Balaji clarified misinformation circulating in the media, confirming his compliance with the CBI’s directive to appear on March 17. The CBI’s inquiry into the Karur stampede aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic event and continues to progress.
