A day after resigning from the Rajya Sabha and the Trinamool Congress, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy revealed that the RG Kar rape and murder case was pivotal for him. He felt the public outrage indicated the party’s impending defeat in the Assembly polls.
Roy clarified that his decision to resign was independent and not influenced by external forces. He expressed gratitude to the Trinamool leadership for the opportunity to serve as a Rajya Sabha member. Despite acknowledging the party’s good leaders, Roy highlighted concerns over sexual harassment cases linked to the party.
The former Trinamool MP emphasized that the RG Kar incident prompted his resignation, as it reflected public discontent with the party. Roy predicted that the Trinamool Congress might not sustain in its current form for long. He criticized the party for not addressing public concerns and failing to take corrective actions.
Roy pointed out the deteriorating situation in West Bengal, citing issues like lack of investment, rising unemployment, and ailing healthcare services. He mentioned submitting his resignation from both the party and the Rajya Sabha due to feeling powerless in the current scenario. Roy also hinted at uncertainty regarding his future in politics.
Praising the new BJP government, Roy noted their progress in fulfilling manifesto promises, contrasting it with the perceived failures of the previous regimes in the state.
