Former West Bengal ministers, Sujit Bose and Rathin Ghosh, have informed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that they cannot attend questioning related to a municipal recruitment corruption case. The ED had summoned them to its office in Kolkata but both cited reasons for their inability to appear.
Rathin Ghosh explained to the ED that he sustained a leg injury and was advised rest for 10 days after slipping in the toilet. On the other hand, Sujit Bose mentioned that he was occupied in supporting party workers affected by post-poll violence and requested additional time to meet with the agency.
Both ministers had been previously called for questioning before the West Bengal Assembly elections. Sujit Bose had sought more time from the ED on multiple occasions, citing election-related responsibilities. The Calcutta High Court had directed him to appear before the ED on May 1, which he complied with after nearly nine hours of questioning.
Rathin Ghosh, who won his constituency amid a strong BJP challenge, had also asked for time due to election engagements. Fresh dates for their appearance before the ED are expected to be announced soon.
