K. Annamalai, the founder of ‘We The Leaders,’ has raised concerns about the extensive security arrangements planned for the NEET retest on June 21. He believes that these measures, which include a high level of security involving various forces and advanced technologies, might escalate anxiety among students rather than instilling confidence in the exam process. Annamalai, in a social media post, expressed surprise at the unprecedented security framework introduced by the Union government in response to fears of exam integrity and leaks.
The security protocol for the NEET retest comprises a comprehensive two-tier escort system with the CRPF and CISF, transportation of exam materials supported by the Indian Air Force, AI-enabled CCTV surveillance, biometric and facial recognition checks, rigorous frisking procedures, and direct oversight from the Prime Minister’s Office. Annamalai questioned the necessity of such elaborate arrangements for a national entrance exam, suggesting that these stringent security measures are more suited to sensitive operations rather than academic assessments.
While acknowledging the government’s aim to prevent malpractice and ensure transparency, Annamalai highlighted the potential negative impact on students due to the heightened security procedures. He expressed concerns that the increased scrutiny and extended exam duration could add to the stress faced by candidates who have been preparing rigorously for the test. Annamalai also criticized the handling of issues related to admit card downloads and access to exam information, stating that the current security framework might create new challenges for aspirants instead of addressing existing problems.
Emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach, Annamalai urged authorities to maintain exam integrity while also prioritizing the mental well-being of students appearing for one of India’s most competitive entrance exams.
