Four juveniles have been captured by the police in connection with the reported attack on a Manipuri woman and her transgender companion in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi. The Delhi Police disclosed that the apprehension took place following raids in the area within the Malviya Nagar Police Station’s jurisdiction. All four accused are minors and are currently in custody for further investigation. Legal procedures appropriate for minors are being initiated.
The incident allegedly occurred near the court complex in Malviya Nagar on a Sunday evening. A young woman from Manipur and a transgender individual from Assam were reportedly subjected to racially offensive remarks by a group of boys while walking in a park. Subsequently, an argument ensued when the woman objected to the comments. The situation escalated as the group allegedly physically assaulted them, using belts to hit and punching them, alongside hurling abusive slurs.
The victims claimed that they had previously faced verbal harassment in the same area. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police initiated an investigation near the court complex. The injured woman was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Authorities confirmed that the woman is in stable condition with minor injuries resulting from the assault. Statements from the victims are being recorded by the police, and further legal actions will be based on the investigation’s outcomes.
