On a previous occasion, a tragic incident on May 30 saw 18 people, including 10 children and five women, killed in a truck accident in Laghman province. The truck, carrying Afghan migrants returning from Pakistan, overturned on the Kabul–Jalalabad highway. The victims, who had recently come back from Pakistan, were en route from Kunar province to Kabul when the vehicle flipped.
In a separate event on May 3, three commuters died in a collision between a passenger vehicle and a truck in Faryab province, northern Afghanistan. The crash, which took place in Andkhoy district, involved all three victims who were traveling in the high-speed vehicle. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, although further details have not been disclosed.
