French captain Kylian Mbappe showcased his exceptional goal-scoring skills at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, breaking the all-time knockout goals record and surpassing Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race. In a remarkable performance against Sweden in the Round of 32, Mbappe netted a brace, his third in the tournament, to equal Messi’s six goals but moved ahead with two assists.

Mbappe’s impressive display at World Cup 2026 has positioned him just one goal shy of Lionel Messi’s record of 19 goals. With his tally now at 18 goals, Mbappe stands two goals ahead of Miroslav Klose and trails Messi by only one goal, setting the stage for a potential shift in the top goal-scorers list in the upcoming matches. The French star will have the opportunity to further enhance his goal-scoring record when France takes on Paraguay in the Round of 16 at Philadelphia Stadium on July 5.

Expressing his pride in the team’s performance, Mbappe emphasized the mission ahead and the challenges they face in the tournament. Acknowledging the upcoming match against Paraguay, Mbappe highlighted the team’s strengths and the need for thorough analysis before the next game. With a focus on staying grounded and taking each game as it comes, Mbappe emphasized the importance of enjoying the moment while preparing for the next hurdle.
