Fresh tension has arisen in Manipur’s Imphal West district as miscreants set fire to houses in the Kanto Sabal area, impacting the Meitei community. Two suspects have been apprehended for their involvement in the arson and mob violence. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has strongly denounced the incident.
The Chief Minister’s Office, in an official statement, revealed that arrests have been made, including Kammang Lhouvum, Chief of Hengjang Village and Chairman of Leimakhong Area Protection Committee. Chief Minister Singh assured that swift actions have been taken to control the situation, with the deployment of state police and Central Armed Police Forces to contain any further unrest.
Expressing concern over the incident disrupting peace efforts, Chief Minister Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to preventing such incidents in the future. Following the arson, a large mob attempted to advance towards the affected area, but security forces intervened promptly to avert potential clashes and prevent further damage.
