Global capability centres (GCCs) in India have transitioned from being support units to becoming centers for research, design, and innovation, playing a crucial role in the country’s economy. Ajoy Sharma, Additional Secretary and Director General (Employment) at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, highlighted the significant growth and transformation of GCCs. These centers are now engaged in high-value activities like research and design, marking a shift towards more advanced functions.
Sharma emphasized the growing importance of GCCs in India’s economy, especially during a period of significant economic changes. He mentioned that these centers are aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, where the government, industry, and other stakeholders are collectively striving to propel India towards becoming a developed nation. Sharma stressed the need for a collaborative effort across ministries to realize the objectives of Viksit Bharat, emphasizing the involvement of all sectors in driving India’s long-term development agenda.
According to Sharma, achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat requires a comprehensive approach involving not only the government but also active participation from the industry and all stakeholders. He highlighted the necessity for all entities to work together closely, with each ministry contributing towards the common goal of advancing India’s development initiatives.
