US tech giant Google announced that Indian users can now securely store their Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials in Google Wallet for easy identity verification in various daily scenarios. This feature, developed in collaboration with UIDAI, follows global standards like selective disclosure to share only necessary information when needed. Initial partners for this initiative include PVR INOX, BharatMatrimony, and Atlys, offering services such as age verification for entertainment and auto-filling international visa applications.
Google emphasized that security, privacy, and interoperability are key aspects of this digital identity integration, ensuring a safe user experience. The company is also extending digital ID features to users in Singapore, Taiwan, and Brazil, enabling them to create ID passes based on passport details and store them in Google Wallet. This facilitates simple and private identity or age verification for both online and in-person services without the need for physical documents.
In addition to digital IDs, Google recently introduced Search Live globally, enabling real-time interactive conversations with Search in AI Mode across over 200 countries and territories. This expansion is powered by Gemini 3.1 Flash Live, a new audio and voice model that enhances conversational experiences, allowing users to interact with Search using voice and camera inputs in multiple languages.
