Google’s AI chatbot Gemini encountered service disruption on Wednesday, leading to unresponsiveness across various apps and web interfaces. According to outage tracking platform Downdetector, reports of outages on the social media platform surged sharply in the afternoon to hundreds. Users highlighted issues affecting the app experience initially, followed by problems on the website and with automation and workflow.
Google Gemini is integrated into Google Search, Google Workspace, Google One, and Google Cloud. Users reported encountering errors such as codes 1052 and 1076, as well as system lockups and unresponsiveness on multiple devices despite having stable internet connections. Google did not release an official statement acknowledging the outage or providing a timeline for a fix. It remains unclear whether the disruption resulted from server downtime, backend updates, or network issues.
The sudden increase in reports suggests that the service disruption was abrupt rather than gradual. It is uncertain whether the outage is global or limited to specific regions. Google recently introduced Gemini Omni, a new multimodal AI model that allows users to create and edit videos using text, images, audio, and video prompts. This advancement marks a significant milestone in transforming Gemini into a fully creative AI platform capable of understanding and generating various media forms.
Users can input photos, drawings, existing videos, voice references, or text prompts, which the AI combines to produce a single video. Image editing can be facilitated through conversational interactions, enabling users to describe desired changes simply. Google CEO Sundar Pichai mentioned that more than 8.5 million developers are leveraging the company’s AI models monthly to build applications and experiences.
