The government has arranged an all-party meeting on Sunday before the Monsoon Session of Parliament starts on July 20. The meeting, set for 11 a.m. at the Main Committee Room of Parliament House Annexe, aims to seek cooperation from all political parties for the smooth functioning of both Houses of Parliament.
The Monsoon Session is scheduled to begin on July 20 and will run until August 13. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the session dates, approved by President Smt. Droupadi Murmu, for meaningful discussions on national issues.
This four-week session will consist of 19 sittings. Changes in Parliament’s composition are expected due to divisions within the Trinamool Congress, disputes between the DMK and Congress, and defections from the Uddhav Sena. The ruling NDA is likely to strengthen its numbers, while the Opposition INDIA bloc may see a decrease.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will decide on the merger of rebel Trinamool MPs with the NCPI and Uddhav Sena MPs with Shiv Sena. The DMK has requested separate seating arrangements from Congress following its alliance with the TVK in Tamil Nadu. Bills such as the 131st Constitution Amendment Bill on women’s reservation and delimitation are expected to be prioritized.
The government may introduce the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill to automatically remove detained chief ministers, ministers, and the Prime Minister after 30 consecutive days in serious crime cases. The One Nation, One Election Bill, FCRA Bill, Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, and Anti-Doping Bill are also on the agenda. Proposals to replace the ordinance increasing Supreme Court judges and bills related to Wages Central Rules, Corporate Law, and Securities Market Code may be presented.
