The government has launched a revamped Rs 203 crore technology development and investment promotion (TDIP) Scheme for 2026–31 to enhance India’s presence in global telecom standard-setting and advance technologies like 6G. Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia unveiled the guidelines, emphasizing the scheme’s role in positioning India as a global standard-setter.
Minister of State for Communications, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, and Secretary (Telecommunications) Amit Agrawal were present at the event. The TDIP scheme, designed as a comprehensive support system, will financially support Indian stakeholders to actively participate in international telecom standardization platforms.
This initiative aims to facilitate Indian engagement in global meetings, submission of technical contributions, leadership roles in study groups, and hosting international standardization events. India’s focus is on influencing the development of future communication systems, such as 5G Advanced and 6G, by aligning domestic innovation with global standards.
The Ministry of Communications highlighted that the scheme will ensure sustained interaction with global bodies, promoting Indian technologies in international standards and fostering intellectual property creation and export potential. The revised guidelines expand the scheme’s scope to include startups, MSMEs, academia, research institutions, telecom operators, and industry players.
In addition to standardization efforts, the TDIP scheme will support pilot projects, proof-of-concept initiatives, and technology demonstrations to bridge the gap between research and commercial deployment. Key agencies like the Telecommunications Standards Development Society India, Telecom Centres of Excellence India, and Telecommunications Consultants India Limited will oversee implementation and industry participation.
The TDIP scheme, alongside existing initiatives like the Telecom Technology Development Fund and the Bharat 6G Mission, forms part of a broader strategy to develop a globally competitive telecom ecosystem.
