Following the transfer of the iconic Air India Building at Nariman Point, Mumbai, to the Government of Maharashtra, Public Works Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale conducted an on-site inspection. Minister Bhosale emphasized the need for a comprehensive structural audit before relocating government offices to the building. He stressed the importance of using high-quality materials for repairs and renovations to ensure long-term durability.
The Minister directed officials to redesign the main entrance and facade of the building to reflect Maharashtra’s rich heritage. He also suggested seeking guidance from renowned architects for the project. Ensuring the safety and convenience of citizens visiting for government-related work, Minister Bhosale urged officials to complete all works within the set timeframe while maintaining high quality standards.
The Maharashtra Cabinet approved the acquisition of the strategically located building on September 8, 2023, for Rs 1,601 crore. The Government of Maharashtra officially took over the property from Air India Asset Holding Limited on June 2, 2026. The historic building is set to offer modern office space for various government departments, enhancing administrative efficiency.
Minister Bhosale highlighted the significance of the transfer, focusing on quality repairs and public convenience. The state government plans to complete internal renovations within a year, relocating several government offices to the building. With around 46,470 square meters of space available, the government aims to consolidate offices in close proximity to the Mantralaya.
