The Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) apprehended Anurag Abhishek, a Field Officer at the District Dairy Development Office in Bettiah, West Champaran district, on Friday. Abhishek was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 inside his office premises. The arrest followed a complaint filed by Bablu Kumar, a Gaunaha resident.
A special vigilance team from Patna, responding to the complaint, conducted a raid in the Banuchhapar area, leading to the official’s arrest. Bablu Kumar alleged that Abhishek demanded money to release a government subsidy of Rs 1.90 lakh, which he was entitled to for purchasing four cows under a dairy development scheme. The complainant claimed that the officer had previously taken Rs 32,000 from him for insurance and other expenses.
Mithilesh Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the VIB, confirmed the arrest, stating that Abhishek was apprehended while accepting the bribe related to the subsidy for Bablu Kumar’s dairy project. Anurag Abhishek has been taken into custody and will be brought to Patna for further legal actions. The Vigilance Department’s swift action underscores its commitment to combating corruption in government offices.
